In a major crackdown on narcotics smuggling, the Crime Branch of Delhi Police has dismantled an international drug cartel operating in the capital, targeting students and youth. Two foreign nationals—Humphrey Muwong from Uganda and Chukwu Ebuka Umeh from Nigeria—were arrested in a late-night operation in Tilak Nagar. The police seized 700 grams of high-quality smack/chitta, valued at over ₹1 crore in the illegal market.
The arrests followed weeks of intensive surveillance and intelligence gathering by a special team led by Inspector Veer Singh under the supervision of ACP Pankaj Arora. The operation was part of the ongoing NashaMukt Bharat Abhiyan, with the Crime Branch committed to a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking.
According to police, the accused were acting on instructions from Dagri Jean Marc, a Nigerian national currently based in Africa, who is believed to be the kingpin of the cartel. Investigations revealed that student visa provisions were being misused to facilitate the entry of African nationals into India for drug peddling.
“The accused had established a strong distribution network in Delhi, exploiting student visa loopholes. This operation is a significant blow to the cartel’s activities and we are committed to tracking down all those involved,” said DCP (Crime Branch) Vikram Singh, IPS.
Further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend other members of the network, still at large.
