Lately, a journalist died an untimely death due to a cardiac arrest that stunned many close to him. Sachin Meena was a hard working reporter, spoke Rajeev Nishana National President of the Indian Media Welfare Association. He voiced vehemently against the situation when the hospital refused to hand over the dead body to his guardians due to unpaid bills.
Rajeev Nishana emphasized that journalists commit their lives to reporting news for society and unearth the crime syndicates to clean the society we all live in but the authorities neglect to support them during crucial moments. To tackle these issues, the association intends to meet with Delhi's Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena to seek a state-supported health insurance and medical benefits for journalists and their families.
The family of the late Sachin Meena had difficulty obtaining his body from Dharamshila Cancer Hospital because of an outstanding bill of ₹4.27 lakh. Nonetheless, social activist Virendra Dedha stepped in, facilitating the retrieval of the body and assisting the family during the cremation process.
The General Secretary of the Association, Vijay Sharma, stressed the importance of taking steps to avoid similar difficulties for other journalists in the future.
