Baba Haridas, founder of Shri Preetam Dham Dasmesh Dham Charitable Trust, announced a 40-day “ Yamuna Bachao Yatra” from November 17 to December 26, 2024, across the areas of Delhi. The campaign aims to foster awareness about the severe pollution in the river Yamuna due to industrial waste and domestic sewage.
Baba Haridas, with saints, social activists, and organizations, will lead the yatra, starting from Preetam Dham, Geeta Colony. The initiative will educate the masses about the health risks caused by polluted water, that may comprise kidney, skin diseases, cancer, and food insecurity caused by contaminated crops. The yatra will cover as many as 70 assembly constituencies in Delhi. The loss of biodiversity in the Yamuna was also emphasized, demanding immediate action and strict policies to be formulated for the river’s restoration.
The campaign seeks the need for public awareness and government accountability to revive the Yamuna as a clean and life-sustaining river.
