Coming down heavily on thieves thieving copper wire from Delhi metro rail, the Delhi Police Metro Unit maintaining zero tolerance has arrested five professional cable stealers involved in multiple theft incidents across metro stations in Delhi.
The accused, identified as Karim Mulla, Mohammed Anas, Mohammed Junaid, Mohammed Alam alias Ravi Alam, and Suraj Singh, were linked to seven cases of copper cable theft from metro tracks.
The police recovered 28 meters of stolen copper cable and ₹5,000 in cash during the operation. The arrested individuals were found involved in multiple theft cases across metro stations including Nehru Place, Azadpur, Shastri Park, and Okhla Vihar.
DCP Metro Hareshwar V. Swami praised the teams for their dedication, adding "This successful operation is a testament to the hard work and determination of our Special Staff Metro and Nehru Place Metro teams. Their swift action and use of advanced surveillance techniques ensured the arrest of these habitual offenders, safeguarding metro commuters from potential disruptions."
The arrested individuals are reportedly drug addicts with a history of theft cases. Their arrest marks a crucial step in curbing cable theft incidents that posed a threat to metro operations.
