Gang busted with three arrests

SALMAN SHEIKH

In a major breakthrough, PS Welcome Police have solved a recent robbery case with the arrest of three men who looted a teenage passenger by tricking him inside an autorickshaw. The team also recovered the victim’s stolen belongings, including his mobile phone and bag.

On April 27, a 17-year-old boy, Shivam, reported that he was robbed while travelling in an autorickshaw from Kashmere Gate to Anand Vihar. Two men, posing as fellow passengers, along with the auto driver, fled with his bag near Jhilmil Park after pretending to get off. The bag contained his mobile phone, clothes, documents, and cash.

Under the supervision of DCP North-East Hareshwar V. Swami, a team led by SHO Inspector Rupesh Khatri and ACP Bhajanpura traced and arrested the accused—Salim (48), Rustam (23), and Akash (42), all residents of JJ Colony, Bawana. The autorickshaw (DL-1RAB-4282) used in the crime and bundles of fake note-like papers were also recovered.

During interrogation, the trio confessed to targeting passengers near bus terminals by offering rides and later tricking or forcefully robbing them. They have been involved in similar crimes in the past.

“This case highlights the commitment of Delhi Police to safeguard public spaces and bring habitual offenders to justice. We urge commuters to stay alert while using public transport,” said DCP North-East Hareshwar V. Swami.

Further investigation is underway.
