Two involved in 'attempt to murder' case arrested

SALMAN SHEIKH

The staff of PS Dayalpur has solved an attempted murder case within 24 hours with the arrest of two accused. A country-made pistol and an empty cartridge used in the crime have been recovered.

On the night of April 10, around 10:00 PM, a firing incident was reported from Mustafabad. The caller, Ateeq Ahmed, informed the police that his 25-year-old son, Mehraj, was shot at by unidentified assailants. Mehraj was rushed to GTB hospital for treatment.

A case was registered under sections 109(1)/3(5) BNS and 27/54/59 of the Arms Act. A special team led by Inspector Parveer Dahiya, under the supervision of ACP Deepak Chandra, conducted a swift investigation. Two suspects — Aqib alias Akki (19 years) and Sharif alias Sharik (19 years), both residents of New Mustafabad — were apprehended during raids.

The accused confessed to shooting at Mehraj following an old rivalry when 'questioned'. The weapon used and an empty cartridge were recovered at their instance.

“Our team acted promptly ensuring speedy justice in a serious crime. We remain committed to the safety and security of the citizens,” said Ashish K. Mishra, Deputy Commissioner of Police, North-East District.

Further investigation is in progress.
