Media XI lost to Police Commissioner Cricket Squad
Sikander Singh awarded 'Man of the Match'
At last the long awaited battle of bat and ball between Delhi Police and crime reporters was pitched amidst many top brass of Delhi Police and media fraternity at sports ground NPL (New Police Lines) Kingsway Camp. Though this cricket contest is a one day affair yet many prominent faces from either side; journalists reporting crime and the police fraternity, turned up to witness the contest. The event, usually organised in the month of February every year, is impatiently waited for by both the teams. The Commissioner Police XI emerged victorious against Media XI in the G-Murali cricket tournament.
Suresh Jha,skipper of Media XI won the toss and elected to bat first on the perfect batting track. Media XI lost three early wickets in quick succession which mounted immense pressure on the batters, following the middle order crumbled like a pack of cards. They made a meagre total of 106 runs in stipulated 20 overs. Hemant and Neeraj Roy were the main scorers for the Media XI.
The Commissioner of Police XI captained by Vijay Singh, Joint Commissioner of Police, Transport, chased the total with ease and scripted the second consecutive win. The winning run came in the 16th over, securing a comfortable victory with seven wickets in hand.
Sikandar Singh shone with the ball, claiming four wickets; earned him the 'Player of the Match' award. Hareshwer Swami, known for his aggressive batting attitude hit some spectacular boundaries for the winning squad with 42 runs off 32 balls before getting run-out.
The event was graced by Delhi Police Chief Sanjay Arora as Chief Guest on the occasion, senior police officials and cricket enthusiasts also registered their presence. The tournament, played annually in memory of journalist G. Murali, aims to strengthen ties between the media and law enforcement while honouring Murali’s contributions to journalism.
Both the umpires Santram and Ravinder on the DDCA panel officiated the match without a trace of partiality.
Anand Mishra exhibiting excellence behind the stumps won him the award of Best Fielder.
The coach of Delhi Police Cricket Club ASI Premvir Singh Nagar and his team under the guidance of additional commissioner of police Rajender Singh Sagar and DCP Sandeep Byala facilitated the event.
HC Kavit Moral, a seasoned commentator for Delhi Police, brought in style the running commentary to the viewers watching the match.
Manveer Singh impeccably maintained the scorebook.
