The STF team apprehended two armed accused and recovered one automatic pistol with two live cartridges and a katta (country made pistol). Acting on a tip-off about an individual who went viral online for brandishing a pistol, the police located Gurkirat Singh alias Robby 23 years near Guru Gobind Singh University. A loaded pistol was recovered from his possession, and an FIR under the Arms Act was registered.
During interrogation, Gurkirat disclosed that he had purchased the firearm for ₹25,000 from a supplier, Vivek from Bihari Colony. He also revealed his associate, Suraj Yadav, alias Sonu 23 years, had a similar weapon. Gurkirat admitted to using the firearm to show his dominance in his locality.
The police then arrested Suraj from Cross River Mall, recovered a country-made pistol and live cartridge. Gurkirat, a student, had no criminal record but was addicted to alcohol. Suraj, a school dropout, was previously involved in one criminal case and addicted to substance abuse.
The effective action by Shahdara Police prevented potential criminal activity, highlighting their efforts to stop firearm-related offenses in the region. Investigations were trying to trace the arms supplier Vivek and break the network of illegal arms, stated DCP Shahdara, Prashant Gautam.
