Athletic Cluster Championship opens today

Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Delhi witnessed the inaugural ceremony of 73rd All India Athletic Cluster Championship amidst a gathering packed to the rafters. Vinai Kumar Saxena, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi flagged off the event. Virender Sehwag former Indian cricketer and Rani Rampal, former captain and present coach of the Indian Hockey Team were also present at the event. The event began with a colourful march by the participants with the Delhi Police band. ACP Vijay Pal Singh Tomar did the torch bearing ceremony, VK Saxena took the salute from marching contingents. Commissioner of Police, Delhi Sanjay Arora welcomed the chief guest and appreciated the participants.
The Guv highlighted the importance of sports in life, and emphasized building discipline for success.
The event was attended by 1123 police personnel including 759 males and 364 females. 39 teams across from 29 states, 4 teams of union territories and 10 CAPF teams participated in 45 athletic events and 7 cycling events.

10 Km Run (Women): Gold - Ujala (UP Police), Silver - Renu (CISF), Bronze - Mamta Paul (UP Police)
36.8 Km Cycling: Gold Anantha Narayanan (Kerala Police), Silver - Mandeep Singh (SSB), Bronze - Mukul (UP Police)
Pole Vault (Women): Gold - KM
Babita Patel (CISF), Silver - Reshma Raveendran (Kerala Police), Bronze - Divya Mohan (Kerala Police)
New record holders:
10,000 metre (Men): Prince Kumar
(UP Police) with 29:03 minutes, breaking the previous 29:30-minute record of Rajesh from Uttarakhand.
100 metre (Women): Vijaya Kumari
(CISF) with 11.78 seconds, surpassing the previous 11.85 seconds record held by Sindhu VT ( CRPF).
