Inferno claims three lives
Three labourers lost their lives in a tragic fire incident at a temporary tent near Manglam Road in Anand Vihar during the wee hours of Monday. The deceased have been identified as Jaggi (30), Shyam Singh (40), and Kanta Prasad (37), all from Uttar Pradesh.
According to the police, the victims with another labourer, Nitin Singh (32), had been residing in the tent set up in a DDA plot near a Nala and beside the Rotary Club office. The fire reportedly broke out around 2 am. Nitin Singh, the sole survivor, stated that Shyam Singh noticed the fire and attempted to unlock the tent's temporary gate but failed. While Nitin managed to escape with minor injuries, the others were trapped inside and succumbed to burn injuries and asphyxiation. The blaze, which was intensified by a diesel lamp and a gas cylinder going off, was eventually brought under control by fire fighters. Police with fire brigade officials, a crime team, and FSL experts, inspected the site.
The bodies of the deceased have been sent for autopsy, and statements from key witnesses, including Nitin Singh and the victims' family members, have been recorded.
Further investigation is underway.
