Counting amidst tight security begins today

In a press conference held yesterday in which the Special Commissioner of Police, SPNO, Devesh C Srivastava briefed the press ensuring security and elaborating on the arrangements made for vote counting today.

The Delhi Police and Election Commission have secured 19 vote-counting stations, ensuring all necessary arrangements to maintain transparency during the counting process on February 8, 2025.

Each counting station is headed by an Additional DCP, and 38 units of CAPF have been deployed at all 19 stations with Delhi Police personnel to ensure strict implementation of security guidelines. Moreover, authorized officers and media personnel will not be allowed to carry mobile phones, and no vehicles will be allowed within 100 meters to avoid congestion.

The Delhi Police also shared numbers on law violations in the capital before the election. 1,060 FIRs were registered for MCC violations under the Delhi Prevention and Defacement of Property Act. Additionally, 28 FIRs have been filed for inducement or gratification through illegal meetings. 13,840 individuals were held for liquor consumption, and over ₹11 crores cash involved in illegal activities was seized. Swift actions of police led to the seizure of 777 arms and the arrest of 994 individuals for illegal arms handling.
