The police (Traffic) have undergone a major overhaul with cops on the road being all the more proactive. Leaving no stone unturned to prosecute the delinquent and others flouting the rules of traffic with impunity.
A lot has changed since Ajay Chaudhry, 1996 batch IPS assumed office as Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic), he being at the helm revamped the policing of traffic in Delhi manning roads and regulating traffic. Keeping in view certain vital aspects comprising road safety, pollution, honking at traffic signal, over speeding, tampered registration number plates, not wearing seat belts or two wheeler riders not wearing helmets and triple riding, the police exhibit zero tolerance and the one in error will be fined irrespective of who's who, none is above the law, Chaudhry spoke.
The entire unit working tirelessly with a view to minimising road accidents, reducing pollution and ensuring safety pertaining to road users has put in unstinted effort to maintain the decorum. The city's traffic police gathered fines totaling ₹266 crore in merely 50 days. Ajay Chaudhry disclosed that from October 15 to December 9 this year, penalties were imposed on 2,66,000 vehicles. This initiative took place while executing GRAP Stages 3 and 4, incorporating strict actions to address increasing air pollution. More categorically, vehicles emitting pollutants on the road remained on the police's radar and the owners were given a ticket. Besides, those taking the law into their own hands were dealt strictly and not let off easily.
