Legal studies campaign in Delhi schools

A number of schools including DAV Senior Secondary School, Gandhi Nagar; Geeta Bal Bharti, Shankar Nagar; Babu Ram School; Udham Singh Senior Secondary School, Mandawali; Rajkiya Kanya Sarvodaya Vidyalaya, Bhola Nath Nagar; and Ayushman NGO, Karkardooma participated in a campaign of cybercrime and career building strategy in schools.  The campaign was conducted in schools to educate boys, girls, and teachers on cyber fraud and the need for legal education in schools as part of career-building strategies. Thousands of students were informed about safe internet practices, including password management, OTP handling. Additionally, students were made aware of issues like digital arrests and sextortion and were encouraged to seek immediate help by contacting 112, 1930, or reporting via CyberCrime.gov.in without fear.

Key issues were discussed in this campaign, like inappropriate posts on social media by students, inappropriate and irrelevant messages through phones. Also, female students’ issues were talked about. Virendra Punj, ACP Vigilance, Delhi Police, has been working for the past 16 years towards a crime-free society and guiding children in building careers, led the campaign with advocate Meghverna and Shubham Pushp, he addressed students, parents and teachers.

He placed great emphasis on legal studies, which helps in building a career as judges, civil servants and lawyers. Also, The Mission Legal Studies India initiative is working at a national level to promote legal studies. Inspired by this campaign, students in Northeast Delhi schools have started learning this subject.

Dharmendra, a law graduate and social studies teacher at Mandawali Udham Singh School, suggested introducing legal studies from class 8th. At this moment, a student gifted a sketch to ACP Punj who distributed legal studies books in schools.
