(Delhi News Live)
The Congress party of Madhya Pradesh held a significant protest, ‘Vidhan Sabha Gherao’, at Jawahar Chowk, alleging that the BJP-led state government has not met its electoral commitments. The demonstration, headed by Leader of Opposition (LoP) Umang Singhar and PCC president Jeetu Patwari, included involvement from senior leaders, MLAs, and various party factions.
Main concerns highlighted involved shortcomings in farmer welfare, women-focused programmes and job opportunities for youth. Singhar condemned the Ladli Behna Yojana, claiming that the BJP pledged ₹3,000 monthly support for women, only ₹1,250 is being provided to chosen recipients. He criticized the government for not honoring promises to create jobs and accused the CM of overlooking farmers during a fertilizer shortage.
The Congress claimed shortcomings in providing minimum support prices for crops and condemned the government's strategies concerning employment, fertilizer availability, and public welfare. Symbolically, Congress MLAs transported vacant fertilizer bags and tried to access the Assembly via tractor but were halted by security.
Political analysts observed that the cohesion shown among Congress leaders played a role in the protest's effectiveness. Speaking to the assembly, Singhar cautioned the ongoing protests both within and beyond the Assembly. The Congress intends to escalate its criticism in the current session, insisting on accountability from the state government.
