Delhi Police host Cyber Challenge – Hackathon Award Ceremony
The Delhi Police, in collaboration with CyberPeace, successfully hosted the award ceremony of the Cyber Challenge – Delhi Police (Hackathon-2024) on Thursday, marking the culmination of an intense 36-hour hackathon that aimed to tackle pressing cybersecurity challenges.
The competition, held on February 18 and 19, saw 20 shortlisted teams from across India devise innovative solutions to address critical digital threats, including misinformation, women’s safety, and juvenile gang activity monitoring. Participants, comprising students from premier institutions and cybersecurity professionals, presented prototypes designed to enhance law enforcement capabilities.
Addressing the gathering, Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora lauded the young innovators for their technological ingenuity. “In today’s digital era, cyber threats are evolving rapidly, and it is crucial that law enforcement remains ahead of these challenges. The solutions developed in this Hackathon have the potential to strengthen our cybersecurity measures and improve public safety,” Arora averred.
A jury comprising experts from DRDO, RRU, NFSU, SAKEC, and Uber evaluated the prototypes, selecting one winner in each category.
Cyber Novas (SAKEC, Mumbai) won in the category of Counteracting Misinformation and Fake News.
Star Gazers (University of Delhi) secured the top spot for Enhancing Women’s Safety through Predictive Analytics.
Team Ajay (J&K Police) emerged victorious in Social Media Monitoring for the Juvenile Gang Activity.
The Incredibles (Jawaharlal Nehru University) triumphed in Combating Digital Arrest Scams.
Each winning team received a cash prize of ₹1,00,000, along with certificates and mementos in recognition of their innovative contributions.
Congratulating the winners, Vivek Gogia, Special CP, Special Cell, highlighted the significance of collaboration between law enforcement and technology innovators. “Cybercrime is an ever-growing challenge, and we need fresh perspectives to counter it. The ideas presented here are not just theoretical—they hold real-world applicability,” he stated.
The event also witnessed the presence of senior Delhi Police officials, including Manish Kumar Agrawal, Special CP, Technology and Project Implementation Division, and Bhola Shankar Jaiswal, Joint CP, Technology and Project Implementation Division.
The Hackathon was supported by CyberPeace and Startup India, with Uber as the key sponsor.
Sanjay Tyagi, Additional CP, Technology and Project Implementation Division,placed great emphasis on the importance of leveraging AI and data analytics in law enforcement. “The future of policing lies in technology-driven solutions. This Hackathon proves that young minds can play a pivotal role in shaping safer digital spaces,” Tyagi spoke.
