Teachers to take up the cudgels for students' safety
Focus on use of substance, bomb threat and cyber crime
In recent days, there were a number of threat calls rumoured to be related to bombs planted in Delhi's schools that triggered panic among parents, teachers and management. Keeping in view the same, Delhi police have stepped up to pitch in with programmes and seminars that focus on educating teaching staff and administration on handling such chaotic situations.
Under the aegis of Delhi Police Shahdara district and Crime Branch unit, with the Directorate of Education led by Veditha Reddy organized a training programme for teachers. The training focused on enhancing school safety, the programme educated approximately 247 teachers both from government and private schools in the Trans Yamuna area on handling bomb threats, preventing drug abuse among students, and promoting cyber hygiene (CyGene). Notable speakers comprising Sanjay Sain, DCP Crime Branch, Prashant Gautam, DCP Shahdara, and Anil Sharma, ACP Narcotics Crime Branch, talked about plans to empower teachers for handling such chaos.
Teachers were trained on bomb threat calls, also learned about their role in identifying and preventing substance abuse, focusing on recognizing warning signs and providing support to affected students. Cyber hygiene (CyGene) awareness was a central theme, with Retired ACP Prabhat Sinha delivered a presentation on cybercrime threats, and preventative measures. Inspector Manish Kumar Verma, SHO Cyber Shahdara, further educated participants on identifying and managing online scams, and other spam activities.
The programme highlighted the major role of teachers in safeguarding students, emphasizing the importance of knowledge on security issues. The event concluded with an address by Sanjay Sain, DCP Crime, who highlighted the responsibility of teachers and law enforcement in ensuring a secure learning environment. Senior officials, including Sudhakar, Deputy Director of Education, East Delhi and other police personnel also attended the session.
