In a major breakthrough, the Metro Unit of Delhi Police has arrested a gang of professional cable thieves responsible for multiple thefts disrupting metro services. The accused, identified as Govind Kumar alias "Spiderman" (24), Sushil Kumar (29), and Aas Mohammad (29), were caught following an extensive investigation by a joint police team.

The arrests came after a series of thefts were reported between Majlis Park and Azadpur metro stations on the Pink Line. On February 3, DMRC official Surjeet Shukla reported the theft of copper cables, leading to the registration of multiple FIRs. The accused targeted metro tracks by cutting through barbed wire and exploiting debris piles to gain access amidst the dense clump of trees. They used a Bolero pickup truck to transport the stolen cables.

A dedicated police team, under the supervision of the Joint Commissioner of Police (Transport), Vijay Singh and DCP Metro Hareshwar V. Swami, analyzed CCTV footage and employed advanced surveillance techniques to track down the suspects. After a series of coordinated raids, the police apprehended the accused and recovered 80 meters of stolen copper cables worth rupees 70 lakh with the vehicle used in the offence.

"This is a significant victory against organized theft in the metro network. These criminals not only caused financial losses but also put thousands of commuters at risk. Our teams worked relentlessly, using modern surveillance tools and intelligence gathering to ensure their arrest." Spoke Joint Commissioner of Police, Vijay Singh in his address to the press.

The accused have confessed to their involvement in multiple cable thefts, including one near Dwarka Metro Station. Police efforts are now focused on identifying and apprehending their remaining accomplices and the receivers.

"Keeping tabs on such serious crimes is our top priority which we take head on. We can use drone-cams to keep a watch on thieves involved in such a crime." Singh added further.

The arrests highlight the Delhi Police Metro Unit’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of metro commuters. The operation stands as a testament to the effectiveness of advanced policing techniques in handling organized crime within the city.
